You are a passionate blogwriter? You now wish to boost the traffic of the page, you want to make more people have a look at it?

In my previous blog post I already started researching how to achieve this goal and highlighted traffic boost with the help of the discovery engine stumbleupon.com. Anyways, I would like to dive head into the topic and find more ways to make a website a whole success! May the detective work begin!

Tip 1 : SEO – Search Engine Optimization

The right choice of blog and post titles, blog URL and anchor texts (the text you choose to highlight for a hyperlink) seems to be crucial for this optimization. Visiting the page blogger plugins, I learn that it’s an advantage relating especially blog title and all blog post titles to the content. This is an important aspect to be aware of, as search engines use the keywords you name in your titles for matching and coming up with the right match! Check this for some professional insider tips and tricks !

Tip 2:   RSS buttons added to the blog

You probably want to gain readers who follow your blog on a regulary basis, right?  They need to enter your blog, look if there’s something new posted and maybe even forgot where they last left off.

So how about making it easier for your precious readers to stay up to date!  Rss -Really Simple Syndication- helps to easily keep your readers in the loop. The RSS button can be added to your blog, readers can subscribe by adding your blog feed to their RSS-reader (for example googlereader) which “collects” your new blog content as soon as you published it. From that moment on something like a “shortcut” of your new post appears in the followers’ RSS-reader, and the follower will be ablre to read yours and all other RSS feeds he subscribed to. So the content gets automatically transmitted and presented without you doing anything more than offering your feed.

Ok, great! And how adding this RSS buttons now ? Many RSS-readers even offer tools for creating the buttons in no time, by adding a certain html code to your blog, wherever you want the button to appear. Thanks to a french blogger I find a list of links to those tools. Checking the iGoogle tool for a moment I see, with some clicks as well as some copy and paste, it’s done!

Tip 3: Some Short term traffic

There are some ways to boost traffic quickly and easily. Anyways, they mostly bring one click but no constantly returning readers.

  • One thing for you to try might be promoting your blog by intelligently suggesting it in platforms and forums like Yahoo! CleverMake sure you give an useful answer to the question posted and that your blog content is closely tied to what the person is looking for. If you want to read more, try the blog of Gavin Mc Mahon.
  • If you are busy on facebook, posting a link to your blog might bring some quick traffic. However, once it’s not up to date anymore and “disappears” in the run of your profile it’s fastly forgotten and leaves you without further clicks.
  • For those who are up to use some smart tricks to generate traffic, link exchange sites might be worth a look. You are actually trading your click for some other page to get some clicks for your own one. That’s generating fast traffic as long as you use the link exchange, but most people visiting are not really interested in the content and will stay “one-click-wonders”. You want to try it? Linkreferral.com is the big fish in this respect.

Ready to find yourself in the fast-lane? Boost your traffic!

    Hey Johanna,
Thank you for your particularly valuable post. I think this is an important topic for everyone who takes his blogging seriously.
while reading your blog I noticed that we both like to use the phrase “it seems to be like this”.
(“The right choice of blog and post titles, blog URL and anchor texts (the text you choose to highlight for a hyperlink) seems to be crucial for this optimization”)
I wondered if it would be better to use ” it is like this” instead, since we are trying to make a point there.
    What do you think?

Hey Yannick, I thouhgt the subject is interesting to all of us, maybe some will continue writing blogs!
Thanks for you tip Yannick! You are right, I use this formulation quite often. Anyways, sometimes I like using this formulation as I don’t want to sound like the preacher knowing everything, you know ?
In my next post I’ll continue how to make money by writing relevant blogs which reach high traffic, maybe you want to have a look on it next sunday :)

Jo-Ana, my dear!During the last weeks of blogging plus dr.B’s presentations about guys who found their internship via BusAppsBlogging I asked myself a simular question to the one you did: How do I make those people read my posts?!?! Another idea I would add to your list is to comment other blogs (also outside of our class). If we leave interesting and professional comments, maybe even with a link to out sites, i think there is also a great chance to make other poeple read our stuff.
The semester is almost over and I almost pity the dead of our blog posts then… maybe one or two will survive and contiue posting for a while… or maybe open up their on blog again.
Anyway – good topic, nice layout – well done ;)

    Dear Johanna!
First: I love the way you write and make the lay-out of your blog. It is so much fun to follow your ideas and I always finish reading so fast, cause evrything is well structured and understandable, but at the same time it seems very professional! More, please!!
About you topic, well, this definitely concerns all of us and I will use some of your advices to hopefully get a nice internship! Did you already try some of them? I think it is interesting how easily you can gain some readers and make you blog popular. Thanks to you, we know now how to do it!

    hey joey :)
    great post!

I was always a bit upset that no one outside of our class commented on my posts… and than I saw that Gesine from my specific group ‘gained’ a ‘foreign’ follower! That made me jealous :)
Ok, maybe I’m not able to capture someone’s attention but I’ll definitely share a link to my posts on facebook to see what will happen! I’ve never thought about this great opportunity! Another aspect could be google analytics. In my opinion it is very interesting to see at what time how many people were visiting my/ our blog. You could have taken this into account!
But all in all a very interesting and WELL STRUCTURED post.
    Thanks for that :)

    Hey Joey,

what a great post. I really like the way you structured your ideas and the division into parts. Also the topic is really interesting, as we might have all figured out: We have hardly followers on our blogs from the outside world. Your ideas are really interesting and I am convinced they are all very helpful.
I searched for some more ideas and found 2 other alternatives:
    1. Comment on other blog posts.Contribute comments to popular web pages where a lot of people can check out your style of writing and might be interested to read your posts. They might become your followers!
    2. You could addiotionally upload video on YouTube where you can add more personality to your blog. People acctually might see you and be more interesting in following you. You can add titles and keywords to the video which makes it easier to track them. YouTube is a huge platform that handles 10 % of the whole Internet data traffic and therefore offers millions of possible followers.

Really interesting topic that can be discussed a lot. Thank you for offering us the wonderful ideas in order to solve our common problem!

I think it’s very good for a blog to have a good seo. It’s important to have “strong” tags, and make it a day by day “job” or hobby for people who just post for their fun. Very good tips and also helpful, thanks and best regards !
